New Dental AED Legislation in Massachusetts and Mississippi

AED Legislation for Dental Offices

October 19, 2010 - Dentists and dental practices across the country are being required to comply with new laws and regulations requiring automated external defibrillators (AED). Two new laws in Mississippi and Massachusetts will require AEDs in most dental offices in those states.

The Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners adopted Board Regulation 45, effective July 1, 2012, which states that all dental offices are required to have at least one (1) properly functioning AED, or equivalent defibrillator, on the premises of each dental office.

In Massachusetts, the Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID)’s updated regulations, effective August 20, 2010, require an AED in offices where local anesthesia is administered.
